Description

The aim of this role is to work within the CHAS at Home Nursing Team to provide high quality care to babies, children and young people across North East Scotland and Moray, ensuring they get the right support at the right time for them.
We are currently accepting applications however, the next intake for this role will be in September/October 2020.

What activities will I be involved in?
• Helping to get the children up in the mornings/put to bed in the evening
• Helping to bathe and dress the children, transfer them into their chairs
• Keeping siblings company whilst nursing staff attend to the other children
• Supporting the children/siblings with activities
• Assisting the nursing staff to take the children(and their siblings if required) on outings
• Assisting with the Nursing Team with cleaning of equipment and tidying
• Support at mealtimes when appropriate

How much time should I offer?
• You can volunteer on any day of the week, in the morning, afternoon or evening. Shifts are flexible and depend on the needs of the families supported by the CHAS at Home team in North East Scotland and Moray. The time commitment can be negotiated with your supervisor.

Organisation aims and objectives

CHAS is a Scottish charity that provides hospice services for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. We also run a homecare service called CHAS at Home helping families in their own homes across Scotland when they need it most. CHAS offers care in two children’s hospices,-Rachel House and Robin House. Rachel House was Scotland first children’s hospice. CHAS also provides a home care service called CHAS at Home, staffed from both hospices and with dedicated teams in Aberdeen and Inverness. The service offers care and support to families in their own homes when they need it most.

Restrictions

Experience required: -Good communication skills. -Experience of working with children. -Personal experience in a caring role -Shared values with the organisation: respect, care, honesty, accountability.
Travel details: Home locations across North East Scotland and Moray.

Expenses details: We will pay your out of pocket expenses in line with the CHAS volunteer expenses policy.
Training details: It’s important to us that you feel happy, safe and confident in your role. As a CHAS volunteer you will be invited to complete a short core learning package that is tailored to your role. In addition you will need to complete a two day Moving and Handling course that will be arranged by CHAS. This is needed to make sure that when volunteering you know how to move children, with limited mobility, safely. We are always developing new opportunities for volunteers to learn and offer a range of options for volunteers.
