Did you know over 1million people in Scotland are affected by sensory loss? We need you help!

We are looking for people aged 18+ to become volunteer Citizen Advocates, to help people in your community living with a sensory loss. Can you dedicate time & make a long term commitment to another person? There is no specific qualifications necessary, life experience and a desire to making a difference in the lives of people living with sensory loss is all that is required. All applicants will be trained and PVG checked prior to being paired with a advocacy partner.

As an advocate you will:
• Help your Advocacy Partner to make informed choices
• Help your Advocacy Partner to communicate their views
• Support your Partner in meeting new people and gain access into their community
• Help your Partner access support to which they are entitled
• Befriend and share in social activities

Deaf Links provides a wide range of services, activities and learning opportunities for Deaf, hard of hearing and sensory impaired people.

1+ hour per week preferable although would consider fortnightly volunteers

Restrictions

Applicants must be over 18 due to lone working in the community working with vulnerable adults
Experience required: Ability to get along with a variety of people, capable of encouraging people to voice their opinions and defend their rights, and a drive to help people living with sensory loss.
Travel details: The position will be out in the community not at Tayside deaf hub, Travel expects within the local community will be reimbursed monthly, where receipts are provided.
Minimum age: 18

Training details: All induction training for Citizen advocates is carried out in house by our citizen advocacy development worker. Ongoing training will be made available as and when required, support will be provided buy our citizen advocacy development worker through regular relaxed supervisions, where further training and support can be identified or requested.
