Befriender for Adults with Disabilities

Description

Volunteers will be supporting adults (aged 30-50) with physical or learning difficulties (i.e. people with Down Syndrome, or people affected by strokes, or with long term condition like MS, cerebral palsy, etc.). Volunteers will be ask to go out with the person: for coffee, walk, cinema, shops or library,
Support always takes place in the community on a 1:1 basis

Organisation aims and objectives

The City of Edinburgh Social Work Department aims to provide good quality services to people in Edinburgh to protect people from abuse, neglect, accident & self harm. We arrange and provide services for people in their own homes, in day centres, in family care & residential homes. We encourage voluntary organisations & self help groups whose work helps us to achieve our aims and to tell the citizens of Edinburgh, the local Council and central government about groups and minorities whose needs are being neglected, to try and promote their welfare.

Experience required: Being reliable and dependable, willingness to try new things and take on new challenges, people person, good sense of humour.
Travel details: This opportunity is part of VolunteerNet project which is a city wide service. We offer opportunities across the city but we ensure that our volunteers don't travel too far!
Minimum age: 20

Expenses details: Expenses form will be completed and signed by the volunteer and project coordinator. Money will be paid by cash or cheque Day tickets can be issued in advance
Training details: Induction training as well as ongoing access to relevant training
