Sound financial controls and management play a critical role in good governance at the museum and we are looking for individuals to become an integral part in helping the museum achieve this You will work closely with the treasurer and finance committee to help ensure the smooth financial running of the museum. You will assist in the inputting of invoices, credit notes etc into the SAGE accounting software. You maybe asked to get involved in the everyday financial operation of the museum reviewing such things as banking, till receipts, gift aid and general duties associated with running a successful charity operation. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills or rebuild existing ones the Dundee Museum of Transport is a small charity that has big ambitions. During CoVid restrictions it should be possible for the candidate to work remotely from home where necessary.

Organisation aims and objectives

Preservation and collection of historical and vintage vehicles to advance and promote heritage and education of the general public. To provide training in vehicle restoration, and organise meetings and lectures on a wide range of transport and vehicle subjects.

Experience required: Experience in book keeping and SAGE in particular is preferable given our operation. The successful candidate should be numerate. The position might suit a final year accountancy student who needs to gain experience in a working charity environment, equally a person with existing book keeping experience looking for a new challenge whilst utilising their skills would be equally welcome.
Travel details: The museum is ideally placed for the number 5, 9 and 10 Xplore Dundee bus routes which run frequently throughout the daytime. Receipted out of pocket expenses such as bus fares will be reimbursed.

Taster details: We will be more than happy for you to come along, meet the team, and see what we are all about. You will also have the opportunity to look at our SAGE accounting software, have a few practice sessions to see if this is the role that you are looking for. Once up and running there will be the ability to work remotely during COVID restrictions meaning the hours of volunteering can be flexible to suit the individuals circumstances.
Training details: Depending on the applicants experience training will be given covering all aspects of the role including SAGE software. The Treasurer will have oversight and over all responsibility for the work the book keeper carries out, this will form regular meetings between the two. Regular meetings with financé committee are also planned monthly to review the finances prior to the charity’s monthly trustee board meetings. The successful applicant will be part of a larger overall volunteer team of 50 people all with varied skills and qualities that make the museum such a varied place to work.
