We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Community Foodshare Driver

  • VO79966

Description

This is an opportunity to improve the community’s access to fresh food, reducing food waste and food poverty. Volunteers collect food donations from supermarkets and ensure that the food is delivered to be redistributed to the community.

The Community Food Volunteer is supported by the Burnfoot Grows Together Project which is a climate challenge fund project aimed at reducing the environmental impact of people’s food choices. Part of this project has been to set up a community food stand which redistributes food waste from the supermarkets for community use.

The role can involves picking up food donations from donors primarily but could also include sorting food waste and ensuring that all food is of a reasonable quality and fit to eat. Volunteers liaise with staff on when, and where food donations get collected. Food donations are recorded daily then sorted by yourself or another volunteer. Volunteers are welcome to take part in the other activities that the project provides including our community lunches on Thursdays. Come and be part of an active community, meet new people and help the environment.
