We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Community Foodshare Volunteer

  • VO79965

Description

This is an opportunity to improve the community’s access to fresh food, reducing food waste and food poverty. Volunteers help manage food donations from supermarkets and ensure that the food available to the community is safe, fresh and presentable.

The Community Food Volunteer is supported by the Burnfoot Grows Together Project which is a climate challenge fund project aimed at reducing the environmental impact of people’s food choices. Part of this project has been to set up a community food stand which redistributes food waste from the supermarkets for community use.
The role can involves sorting food waste, ensuring that all food is of a reasonable quality and fit to eat. Volunteers record and monitor donations and ensuring food storage and display areas are kept clean and tidy. The role could also include harvesting fresh produce from the community garden and making it available to the public. There are also opportunities to take part in community events promoting the project, including local festivals, open days and other workshops. Come and be part of an active community, meet new people and help the environment.
