Description

D&G HandyVan helps to make people independent and secure in their own home by providing home security, small repairs, falls prevention and minor adaptations for people who are over 60, disabled, have a learning difficulty, mental health problems or who have been a victim of domestic abuse and are a home owner or tenant of a private landlord. Volunteers are required to assist the Fitter where two people are required for jobs, eg. to assist with gutter cleaning equipment or move furniture to accommodate a hospital bed.

1 - 2 days a week. Monday-Friday, am and pm.

Restrictions

No maximum age, but dependent on fitness.
Experience required: No experience necessary. Willingness to work and must have a polite and courteous manner towards all clients.
Travel details: D&G HandyVan (SCIO) covers all of Dumfries & Galloway. This opportunity is for the Wigtownshire area. Where possible the volunteer is picked up from home but sometimes the volunteer travels to meet in with the Fitter and travel is reimbursed. The volunteer receives reimbursement for food and drink purchased during the day up to a maximum amount.

Training details: Induction training on help with equipment will be given by the Fitter. D&G HandyVan tries to offer volunteer training once or twice a year on a required theme, eg. Defibrillator training; First Aid.
