Befriender-Children and Young People

  • VO79387

Volunteers provide quality one to one time on a regular basis and are there to listen, to talk and support children and young people (up to age of 18) to access leisure and recreational opportunities. Befrienders will focus on building their child’s confidence and resilience as well as reducing their isolation and encouraging them to get more involved in the local community.

Befriending activities vary according to service user needs and involve being in the community helping children and young people to access and enjoy activities that are local to them and to help develop skills and interests. For example, some of the service users need support to go to an activity in the community and some service users need someone to talk to one to one. Volunteers provide vital support to children and young people which helps the service users to build up confidence, meet new people and access local activities.
Please note that Barnardo’s does partnership working with Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA) in relation to volunteers. All volunteers will go through a joint induction process and be open up to both organisations allowing options for befriender opportunities-great opportunity if you are looking at building up experience with children and young people.
