Description

The garden at the centre will require ongoing maintenance, including digging, weeding, mowing the lawn and pruning flowers and bushes.
The garden maintenance will facilitate befriending and supporting residents in learning basic gardening skills. These residents may have multiple and complex needs and are living in Anne Hope House.
(Note that this post is restricted to female applicants in order to reduce barriers of access for the all-female residents.)

Bethany Christian Trust exists to relieve the suffering and meet the long-term needs of homeless and vulnerable people. Our vision is that through Christian love in action homelessness will be reduced and vulnerable people empowered to live independently within society. Bethany operates services that take people from homelessness through to managing their own tenancy and building positive friendships.

Restrictions

Experience required: A knowledge of gardening and a reasonable level of physical fitness is needed. Ideally, a volunteer would have experience of working with individuals with mental health or addiction issues. The volunteer should be reliable and willing to commit to building stable connections with clients.
Travel details: The facility is located in Edinburgh. The exact location will be given at a later stage.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Regular volunteers are entitled to claim up to £3.20 per day for travel expenses (£4.00 if multiple busses are required) and up to £3 per day for lunch expenses, providing that they volunteer for 4 hours or more on that day, and that they present their manager/supervisor with the valid receipts.
Training details: Induction and training will be provided on arrival and on an ongoing basis as necessary
