Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Young Carers Project was set up to provide support to carers aged 8-18. Carers are people who provide care and support to family members or other relatives. The people they care for may be affected by disability, physical or mental health issues (often long-term), frailty, substance misuse or some other condition.

The Young Carers Project provides groups for Young Carers to get time out from their caring role to take part in fun activities. We are looking for volunteers to befriend young carers aged 8-18 who live in Falkirk & Clackmannanshire.

Volunteers will meet up with the befriendee on a regular and agreed basis, building up a trusting relationship over time and reducing the social isolation of the carer. Befrienders undertake a minimum commitment of 12 months.

Every befriending relationship is unique depending on the needs of the befriendee and the personalities of the people involved.
In general, a good foundation to all befriending is:

  • To build a good relationship
  • To establish and maintain appropriate boundaries within the befriending relationship
  • To spend time taking part in activities with the befriendee
  • To be accepting, understanding and non-judgemental
