Volunteer Fixers

Description

Are you good at fixing stuff? Would you like to share those skills while making friends? Then join the repair revolution! As more people choose repair and reuse over throw out and buy more, The Repair Café at Transition Town Forres needs more volunteer fixers. Volunteers at the Repair Café help breathe new life into electronics, toys, clothes, small bits of furniture, bicycles and the other stuff we want to keep...and they do this free of charge!

Based on the nationwide Restart Party model, the café is open on the first Saturday of each month -- and it's also a social gathering, where people can have a bite to eat, whilst the fixing commences.

This a great way to meet your neighbours, learn new skills and keep useful items out of landfill.

You do not need to be an 'engineer' to volunteer -- though having lots of skills can help -- what really matters is your approach -- are you creative? do you have patience? do you enjoy solving a problem and approaching it rather methodically?

The volunteer fixer role gives great satisfaction -- the feeling of triumph when a repair is successful, seeing people's faces light up when they learn something new, and also knowing that you are reducing waste, building community and helping our planet.
