St John Scotland (Fife) are looking for volunteer drivers aged between 25-70 to support our patient transport service.
St John Scotland works in partnership with NHS Fife to provide patient transport for people attending renal clinics in Fife. All passengers are referred to us by NHS Fife. As a Patient Transport Driver, it will be your role to transport renal patients to and from the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline. This service is completely free to patients.
The service uses dedicated St John badged vehicles which can carry up to 6 passengers allowing multiple pickups. [currently only one patient due to COIVD restrictions]

St John Scotland was formed in 1947, and for more than 70 years we have helped improve the lives of people in need through our charitable work. Today, our teams of members, volunteers and supporters across the country run projects which help save and enhance lives every day. These include our volunteer-run Patient Transport services, which provide free, comfortable transport to help patients get to hospital, and are a lifeline for hundreds of people going through cancer treatment or dialysis each year.










Timings are flexible and volunteers can work as little or as many hours as they are available for. There is no minimum commitment.

Frequency and commitment details

Volunteers are asked to make a regular commitment to the role which is flexible around their own availability.


Lower age is an insurance requirement for the volunteering role.
Experience required: • You must be between 25 – 70 years old • Hold a full driving licence and be a competent driver • Outgoing and welcoming personality • Ability to communicate with patients and fellow drivers accordingly • Great sense of responsibility and commitment
Travel details: The current service runs for Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. Volunteer drivers collect passengers from their homes at a pre-arranged time, convey them to the clinic and return them home after treatment.

Expenses details: Volunteers will receive travel expenses which includes mileage.
Training details: Volunteers will be fully inducted into the role, undertake volunteer training, an informal driving assessment and continuous training is offered for all volunteers.
