Cowdenbeath Community Meal is a partnership approach to provide a free community meal. This opportunity take place within the Maxwell Centre in Cowdenbeath, a purpose-built community centre in Cowdenbeath with all the necessary equipment to provide a nutritious and healthy meal to people who may either be unable to cook for themselves or who cannot afford to, or who are simply in need of some company.

The organisation is looking for volunteers who can take surplus food and use it to prepare healthy dishes for people using the service. They are also looking for volunteers who can help set up the venue beforehand, serve the meals, and clear away dishes. You will be the public, welcoming face of the project. Initially the project will operate for one session a month with the aim to become weekly.

Organisation aims and objectives

A community education centre which, in the main, provides adult education, youth work and community capacity provision for the Cowdenbeath area.










Hours are anticipated to be 11am-2pm monthly; the organisation aims to increase this to weekly. This opportunity take place in both term-time and school holidays.


Experience required: Volunteers need to have a pleasant manner and enjoy meeting people, and should be friendly, approachable, reliable, enthusiastic and proactive. Catering skills such as cooking, preparing and serving food would be helpful but are not necessary as training will be given.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Bus fares will be reimbursed with production of receipt. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate of 45p/mile.
Training details: Full training will be given, including a certified Food Hygiene course. Ongoing support and training will be in line with Fife Council's Volunteering Policy.
