LINKnet are looking for volunteers to support paid staff to increase awareness of oral health among ME (minority ethnic) communities by bringing the communities in and delivering oral and wider health improvement messages in an accessible manner. “Edinburgh Smile”, is a project of LINKnet that partners MEHIS (Minority Ethnic Health Inclusion Service)- NHS. The successful candidates will be involved in the development and coordination of activities to raise awareness.

Organisation aims and objectives

LINKnet Mentoring Ltd is a voluntary sector mentoring project established to help minority ethnic people living in Edinburgh and the Lothian. We aim to help people from Ethnic Minorities get into jobs, education and also with their Personal Development and integration into the society. LINKnet aims to increase representation of minority ethnic people in further and higher education, employment, public and civic life of Scottish society through a structured one to one mentoring programme which is free to join. One of the main aim of LINKnet is to enhance the quality of life of individuals by improving their personal circumstances so that they are better able and better prepared to attain their goals in the areas of education, employment and personal development. The project also hopes to achieve a collective impact on the minority ethnic community as a whole in their struggle to be better represented in all spheres of life. LINKnet's long-term ambition is to see an equitable Scottish society in which everyone can plays their part and feels part of the wider Scottish community.

Restrictions

Experience required: LINKnet welcomes volunteers who are interested in oral health. You do not need to be a specialist to support us in improving oral health among minority ethnic communities. Anyone who can assist in oral health awareness raising activities is suitable for this volunteering role. The responsibilities will include assisting (remotely until further notice due to COVID-19 outbreak) LINKnet staff to develop and organize activities, maintain close liaison with community groups, and devise communication
Travel details: The work will be remotely until further notice, due to COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, through using online platforms and audio/video calls.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: You will be reimbursed for internet and call expenses. PVG checks will be arranged as appropriate and paid by LINKnet once enrolled.
Training details: Upon recruitment, volunteers are given (remotely until further notice due to COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak) an induction followed by a full training. Throughout the voluntary period a few rounds of skills training will be conducted. Continuous support and supervision will be provided by LINKnet staff.
