Description

Aberdeenshire Council are looking for eager and motivated volunteers to contribute to the development of projects and partnerships in a sporting and physical activity environment (incorporating sport, play, health and active travel) for young people. These exciting roles will support the Active Schools team in meeting the national aims of Sportscotland.

You will be an enthusiastic, driven individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can help grasp opportunities to develop sport and physical activity within Aberdeenshire.

What can you get involved with?A number of opportunities are available to help with a range of activities across Aberdeenshire. These include
• Extra-curricular sports clubs
• Community Sports Clubs
• Holiday Sports Camps
• Events Management
• Health Projects

What is Active Schools?
Active Schools works with schools, clubs and communities to help make sure children start active and stay active.

The fundamental aim of Active Schools is to offer children and young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood.

How can I get involved?
Active Schools relies on volunteers, coaches, clubs and many other partners to make it successful.

Organisation aims and objectives

To increase physical activity levels among school-aged children in general with a focus on girls and young women, young people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, young people with physical and learning disabilities, and young people in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. To improve motivation and attitude of children and young people to help increase achievements in all aspects of school and community life. To increase levels of sports participation in both formal and informal community settings. To increase numbers of young people acting as sports leaders, coaches and volunteers in both school and community settings.

Experience required: You don’t have to be really sporty or hold any coaching qualifications, as ongoing training and guidance will be provided!

Training details: Regardless of your interests, availability and experience we can find an opportunity to suit your needs. In return for volunteering with us you will receive: • Access to Training including NGB qualifications (where appropriate) • Volunteer Handbook • Opportunity to work with children from various backgrounds and abilities • Opportunity to meet and work with people with similar interests • Support and mentoring from experienced coordinators
