Training details: New volunteers spend time with our Office Manager who shows them around the building, informs them of the basics of Health and Safety, runs through a new volunteer checklist with them and then shows them the volunteer handbook. Digitisation and collections volunteers work closely with the Museum Manager so they are never left unsupervised and will receive ongoing training on different tasks on a one to one basis as the need or opportunity arises. We have regular training opportunities such as Basic Food Handling, First Aid, De-fibralator training as well as in house activities such as the History of HM Factory Gretna and refresher training on 5 star Visit Scotland award expectations. No volunteer should ever work alone. There are always three volunteers on shift (including at least one more experienced volunteer) as well as a caterer and office staff so the volunteers are well supported.
