Description

Fife Migrants Forum (FMF) is a charity which supports migrants and ethnic minorities, and is looking for caring people to join its team of trained volunteers for their outreach clinic in Dunfermline.

Your role will be to assist clients with a variety of backgrounds and to help them access suitable support services from FMF's Dunfermline office. Volunteer support can include, for example, putting a client with a recent disability in touch with social services, assisting with an application for Universal Credit, help with filling in an application form, language support, employability assistance, etc.

FMF use a person-centred approach - the service users' needs are at the heart of the case support.

Applications from all areas of the community are welcome. Experience isn't required; training and support will be provided; travel expenses will be reimbursed. See below for skills/attitudes needed.

If you are aged 18+ and you can commit to around 2-3 hours a week, FMF would love to hear from you.

Organisation aims and objectives

FMF delivers its various services to support individuals to realise equal opportunity and equal treatment in accessing and benefiting from public service. Currently we operate projects that seek to address issues of isolation, discrimination, welfare rights, unemployment, and housing problems of migrants in Fife Council area. We also provide excellent opportunities for integration trough volunteering for individuals from all different ethnic minority backgrounds.

5 hours a week.

Restrictions

Experience required: Volunteers aren't required to have experience. However, they need to be confident and have good communication skills, being able to communicate fluently in English. A second language would be great, but this isn't essential. Volunteers need to be caring and empathetic, with a friendly and senstive approach. Volunteers should also be able to work confidentially, in a non-judgemental manner.
Travel details: Volunteers will be based in our Dunfermline office; bus fares will be refunded and mileage will be reimbursed at 40p/mile.
