Volunteer Befriender

  • VO77685

Description

Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland. We campaign for the rights of people living with dementia and their families and provide an extensive range of innovative and personalised support services, community activities, information and advice at every stage of the dementia journey.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to work on a one-to-one basis, providing support and companionship to someone living with dementia. Whether it’s going for a cup of coffee, a stroll in the park or coming along to one of our singing groups, being a volunteer befriender is a hugely rewarding experience and could help make a real difference to someone’s life. Being a befriender is also a great way to increase your employment and further-education opportunities. We offer a full induction into the values and principles of Alzheimer Scotland as well as training to increase your understanding of dementia. You will have the opportunity to meet people working in the third-sector and become an integral part of a community of support networks, all-the-while developing your own social and personal skills.
We are looking for volunteers who can dedicate 1-2 hours weekly/fortnightly to:
• Provide companionship for people living with dementia who may be lonely or isolated.
• Support people living with dementia to maintain their interests and hobbies
• Enable people living with dementia to reconnect with groups and places in their community.
