We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.
Incredible things happen when you believe in children… become a volunteer with Barnardo’s and see why.
We are looking for volunteers to help support groups made up of children and young people who are part of Aberdeen Young Carers, a new service within Barnardo’s in Aberdeen.
A young carer is someone up to the age of 18 who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who due to illness or disability cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help. It may involve practical support like cooking, or house work, or emotional support.
Barnardo’s want to bring out the best in every child no matter who they are or what they have been through. We look at the bigger picture and strive for a better future for all children and young people.
A group volunteer will assist the staff member in delivering any planned activities e.g. arts and crafts, baking etc. They will actively participate with the activity, encourage the young people to join in and have fun and build up positive relationships with the children and young people by being friendly and non-judgemental.
If you have some time on your hands, are looking to gain experience or want to give something back into the community, come and volunteer for Barnardo’s! Flexible times available. All help greatly appreciated.
This is flexible opportunity; groups will generally run on a weekly basis, you can volunteer with us every week, every fortnight or every month depending on your own availability. The groups will predominately take place out with school time however there may be some opportunities for buddies to assist groups within school hours.
There will also be the opportunity for volunteers to help with our school holiday programmes.
