We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.
Incredible things happen when you believe in children… become a volunteer for Barnardo’s and see why.
We are looking for volunteers to buddy with a child or young person who is part of Aberdeen Young Carers, a new service within Barnardo’s for Aberdeen. A young carer is someone up to the age of 18 who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who due to illness or disability cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help. It may involve practical support like cooking, or house work, or emotional support.
Barnardo’s want to bring out the best in every child no matter who they are or what they have been through. We look at the bigger picture and strive for a better future for all children and young people.
We are looking for volunteers to spend some quality time with a child or young person between the ages of 8-18 on a regular basis, getting to know them, and building up a positive relationship by being reliable and non-judgemental when listening to them. A 1:1 volunteer will support the young person to enjoy activities and experiences within the Aberdeen community therefore reducing isolation, and promoting their self-esteem and confidence.
If you have some time on your hands, are looking to gain experience or want to give something back into the community, come and volunteer for Barnardo’s! Flexible times available. All help greatly appreciated.
For more information please contact Susanne Fraser, Volunteer Co-ordinator at E Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or tel: 01224 624090.
