Description

Age Concern Glenrothes (ACG) seek an enthusiastic person with a financial background to oversee the organisation’s finances and to share responsibility with our other Board members for ensuring ACG is run effectively and efficiently.
ACG provides services for older people in the Glenrothes area that enhance their quality of life by encouraging interaction, mental & physical activity and companionship. Your experience and expertise will contribute to providing the services needed to meet this aim. This opportunity allows you to further develop your skills and gives you a very real feeling of actively helping vulnerable people.
By joining their Board of Directors as Treasurer you will be responsible for producing financial reports for funders, producing a realistic budget, advising and guiding the Board on the financial implications of the charity’s strategy, and understanding the accounting procedures and key internal controls to be able to assure the Board of the organisation’s financial integrity.

Age Concern Glenrothes provides services for older people in the Glenrothes area that enhance their quality and enjoyment of life by encouraging interaction, mental and physical activity and companionship. Their aim is to promote independence and reduce social isolation.

3 hours every 2 months, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. There is no minimum commitment, but we would hope that new Board members would wish to stay for at least a year not only to contribute fully but also to gain valuable insight, knowledge and experience of a small but vibrant organisation. Other meetings (to discuss specific issues) are arranged between members as required. Members are encouraged to participate in fund raising activities and to get to know the ACG team providing the “hands on” service.

Travel details: The Board meets at 100 Scott Road, Glenrothes, KY6 1AE every 2 months

Expenses details: Travel expenses can be paid on the meeting night at a rate agreed by the Board
Training details: The Chair is happy to chat informally by phone with potential applicants to give more details about board membership and the Treasurer’s role, to discuss the individual’s skills and experience, and to answer any questions. Upon receipt of a completed application form applicants will be invited for interview with the Chair and one other Board member or Manager. Initial induction training is conducted by the Chair who will explain how ACG operates, its goals, current issues and opportunities, and how the organisation is involved with the wider community (including our sponsors). A comprehensive induction pack is supplied. A meeting with the Centre Manager will then be arranged to look at existing financial processes, budgets etc.
