Description

Picking up an older person (guest) and accompanying them to a volunteer host’s home for an afternoon tea where they will enjoy the company of other people so easing social isolation and loneliness. Where possible you will pick up the same guest/s each month.

Organisation aims and objectives

Contact the Elderly is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people through face to face contact. Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises free monthly Sunday afternoon gatherings for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

The time commitment will be once a month, on a Sunday afternoon for around 3 hours. The tea parties are 2-4pm so allow picking up and dropping off time.

Restrictions

Experience required: If you enjoy listening, are able to chat easily with older people and have a good sense of humour, this could be the volunteering opportunity for you! It’s important that our volunteer drivers are safe and responsible .
