Befriender / Companion (Alyth)

  • VO75936

Description

Can you spare 2 hours per week or fortnight to volunteer as a befriender, supporting older people within Caledonia Housing Association’s Sheltered Housing or the wider Perthshire community. There are many older people with limited family support, wanting social contact. This could be someone to talk to; share a joke or gossip; discuss politics; chat or reminisce; go for a walk; visit a local café.

We are looking for both male & female volunteers who are friendly and tolerant with good communication skills and the ability to listen to others. A creative person who can come up with interesting ideas to overcome barriers, for example physical disability, reduced verbal communication skills after a stroke, or the onset of dementia.

Could you be a reliable companion? – break through the barriers to make a difference in somebodies life? If so, we would like to talk to you.

Organisation aims and objectives

Caledonia Housing Association developed the volunteer project to support older people living in sheltered housing and the wider community, to live independently and enjoy life. The volunteer project is particularly focused on reducing social isolation and loneliness; and promoting health and wellbeing.
