Description

The Royal Air Forces Association are looking for a volunteer befriender to regularly meet with a beneficiary, either in their home or at a mutually agreed location. The volunteer would listen to and engage with the beneficiary - promoting positive outlooks and raised self-esteem, research local community groups and activities to find relevant interests for the beneficiary and identify any additional areas of support and make referrals to the Area Welfare Manager if required.

The potential volunteer would be required to keep a note of visits undertaken with recommendations and actions.

Organisation aims and objectives

The object for which the Association is established is to promote, through the comradeship engendered by its members, the welfare by charitable means of all serving and former members of Our Air Forces, their spouses and dependants, together with the widows and widowers and dependants of those who died whilst serving or subsequently.

Restrictions

Volunteers must be 18yrs or over. PVG Check will be required.
Experience required: Must be caring and empathetic with the ability to build a rapport with others and make them feel at ease through a friendly, sensitive approach. Must be a good listener and communicator, reliable and dependable. Must be flexible in terms of who you will support and able to put people who worry at ease.
Travel details: Based in beneficiaries own home (or within the local area).

Training details: Induction and initial 1 day training course. Refresher courses are offered as required.
