Volunteer Driver

Description

Our van drivers assist on waste wood collections from trade and domestic customers, as well as dropping off customer orders of timber and upcycled furniture. Volunteers must be physically capable, as some heavy lifting of timber on and off the collection vans will also be required. Based at our workshop in Granton, you will be an integral part of our friendly and supportive team of staff, volunteers and trainees.

Organisation aims and objectives

Move On Wood Recycling is a social enterprise in Granton. We collect waste wood, sell quality timber and upcycled furniture, and provide employability training for vulnerable people. Our aims are to save resources by reusing and recycling waste timber that would otherwise go to landfill; and to create sustainable jobs, as well as training and volunteering opportunities, for local people – especially those who might find it difficult to get into or back to employment.

Flexible hours are available from Monday-Saturday. Volunteers can choose how many hours they are happy to commit a week, but we would prefer a regular commitment (i.e. the same days and hours each week) so we can plan our collections and deliveries accordingly.

Restrictions

Experience required: Van drivers must be at least 25 years old and hold a full, clean UK driving license. We use a 3.5 tonne caged pick-up truck, so experience driving a van sized vehicle is preferred. This can be a physically demanding role, with considerable manual labour involved, so this should be taken into consideration. All drivers must join the PVG scheme (Move On Wood Recycling will cover the fee for this).
