We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Home Visiting Volunteers

  • VO75367

Home-Start Aberdeen supports local families, who may be vulnerable or suffering from isolation, with Home-Start Aberdeen aims to prevent family crisis and breakdown in vulnerable, struggling families with young children.

*Our home visiting volunteers:

Offer support to a local family in their own home for 2-3 hours per week. >Receive training and ongoing support. >Help others develop their parenting skills. >Encourage families to engage with their communities. >Provide practical guidance on budgeting and household management. >Connect families with other relevant organisations and services.

All of our home visiting volunteers are carefully matched with a Home-Start family to ensure that the relationship is as productive as possible for everyone. Regular training is provided and all volunteers have a co-ordinator who provides ongoing support and meets with them regularly.

*Why volunteer?
People choose to volunteer with Home-Start Aberdeen to:

Make a difference to a family’s life. >Give something back to their local community. >Return the support they once received from Home-Start. >Share a similar experience. >Boost confidence.
Prepare for returning to work or to progress career. >Do something fulfilling with spare time.

*Data gathered by Home-Start UK last year indicated that more than 90% of the families supported by Home-Start volunteers said they felt:

More involved in their children’s development. >That their children’s emotional and physical health and wellbeing had improved. >Better able to manage their children’s behavior. >Less isolated.
Less stressed. >More able to cope with day-to-day running of the house. >That they were using local services more.
