We are looking for enthusiastic and commited volunteers for our new “Compassion in the Community” project. The roles of the volunteer team would be to ensure our services are delivered throughout the Scottish Borders. The volunteer team will be responsible for gaining extra support from local individuals, businesses, supporters, media outlets and fundraisers.
We are hoping that our “Compassion in the Community” project will build a sense of community spirit and involvement to help the most vulnerable children in the Scottish Borders.
Roles will include helping organise and run FC workshops for vulnerable children in your community, as well as helping with marketing, fundraising, increasing awareness and creating new contacts.
Fostering Compassion is a humane education project for Looked After Children showing worrying behaviour, possibly towards animals or other vulnerable children, or evidencing that they are struggling with compassion and empathy in general. Through our workshops and activities, we share the stories of rescued domestic and wild animals in such a way that the children draw parallels between their circumstances and those of the animals. This helps the children see the animals as sentient beings who can share similar emotions to them. Through sharing the stories of the animals, the children gain a greater understading of their own circumstances and this often provides a platform for the children to open up about their own abuse and neglect.
Experience required: Anyone with skills or experience in marketing, IT, media outlets or promotions would be beneficial but is not essential.
