Description

Volunteers will share information about local history and natural heritage to groups and individuals through share during outdoor activities existing walking and cycling programmes across the Falkirk area. Volunteers will help to develop a number of set routes/ scripts for Great Place activities. The Great Place guiding programme offers the scope to explore and share areas of interest (e.g. Romans in Scotland, or local wildlife) as well as learn and deliver a specific route, according to preference. The Great Place project is a district-wide 2-year programme of activities celebrating the places, people, traditions and industry of the Falkirk area with thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Arts Team at Falkirk Community Trust provide a dynamic programme of performances, screenings, exhibitions, workshops and classes for all ages, in a variety of venues and across a range of art forms: film, new media, dance, drama, visual arts and crafts and music. We offer advice and networking opportunities; we work with local and national arts organisations to support existing cultural activity and encourage new work and new opportunities. The Arts Team is responsible for a wide range of locations and activities: Falkirk Town Hall, Hippodrome cinema, Callendar House, film, theatre and exhibition programmes, arts development events, projects and activities and box office services.

Frequency and commitment details

4 hours per week - One guided activtiy per month

Restrictions

Experience required: This opportunity is best suited to people who are friendly and confident, with good verbal communication skills. You should have an interest in sharing local natural and/or historical heritage and any knowledge of the local area and local heritage is a bonus but not required to participate. We can accommodate varying levels of fitness, and participants can choose whether they would like to be involved in walking or cycling guiding, or may opt for both.
Travel details: The Great Place scheme will run events from May 2019 to March 2021. All programmes will take place within the Falkirk Council area. Training will take place at Callendar Park.

Training details: Volunteers will receive up to 3 days of training in a group, and have the opportunity to test out their walks.
