Description

The Sports Development Team has priority sports to develop across the city. These priority sports are currently athletics, football, gymnastics, netball, tennis and trampolining. The team deliver term-time classes across the city in Leisure & Culture Dundee facilities (DISC, Douglas Sports Centre, Grove Swim & Sport, Harris Swim & Sport, Lynch Sports Centre, St Paul’s Swim & Sport) as well as at community centres and schools. There are also holiday programmes and events throughout the year. Volunteers can participate in programmes as assistant coaches, working alongside qualified coaches and receiving support from sports development officers. By providing volunteering opportunities within these programmes, the Sports Development Team aim to provide experience, development opportunities and increase employability.

Organisation aims and objectives

The projects main philosophy has been to create opportunities for children and young people from Dundee’s most deprived areas to participate in physical activity and sport, along with using sport as a tool to raise attainment levels, increase employability prospects and reduce anti-social behaviour levels. The team delivers 6 main programmes; Participation Programme, Diversionary Programme, Learn Thru Sport Programme, Springboard Programme, Volunteer Development Programme and Holiday Programme.

Classes are generally 1 hour in duration so this would be the minimum time commitment per week. Volunteers will not be used as part of ratios so there is no requirement for a set period of time.

Restrictions

All volunteers will be PVG checked prior to working with children
Experience required: Volunteers should have an interest in sport, however, no previous coaching experience is required.
Travel details: Volunteers will be responsible for their own travel to venues.
Minimum age: 16

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Public transport costs reimbursed on production of tickets purchased. Mileage paid at 45p/mile.
Training details: Volunteers can attend induction training and if there are certificated courses that would benefit the volunteer and Leisure & Culture Dundee these will be considered.
