Organisation aims and objectives

Kinloch Historical Society (Comunn Eachdraidh Cheann a Loch) covers the areas from Soval to Aline, taking in Shieldinish and Eishken, Isle of Lewis. The group is based in the Old School, Balallan (now the Kinloch Community Hub), and have extensive records on genealogy and a collection of local artefacts in their museum. In January 2019, the Kinloch Historical Society launched the Kinloch Community Inclusion Project. This fifteen-month project is funded by the Aspiring Communities Fund, which is supported by the European Social Fund, and the Scottish Government. The project seeks to identify and address the factors surrounding social isolation in the Kinloch area, by meeting and working with local residents to grow the facilities and services at the Hub for the benefit of the community. Facilities at the Community Hub include a Tearoom, which is open all year round from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am-4pm, serving traditional lunches and a selection of fresh baking; a museum and archive covering the military and social history of the area; a charity shop; and a launderette.
