Classroom Assistants and Outdoor Experience Helpers

  • VO75075

Description

We like to provide children with the best opportunities for learning both in and out of school. With this in mind we require volunteers to help assist us with trips out of the school to widen their experiences. As well as this, we are looking for volunteers to work with children in school to support literacy and numeracy.

For class trips we can struggle to take the children on these as we don’t have enough parent helpers or staff members to go with them. The trips tend to be based locally (in Hawick itself) and to meet our adult/child ratio we usually require at least 3 additional adults per class on any trip that we go on. The role would require walking from the school to wherever the class are visiting, assisting with helping the children to get there safely and encouraging any learning along the way. Additionally, we are finding it tighter in school to meet all the needs required in a class with fewer human resources in which to do so. Finding time to work on a 1-1 basis with individual children, who either need some support in literacy and numeracy or with a pupil who is actually needing challenged in their work and pushed on further, are demands that class teachers find it hard to always get to do on a daily basis. Having an additional helper in the class to support these pupils would be invaluable.

Organisation aims and objectives

We are a community school and would like to provide our young people with the best opportunities for learning both in and out of school. With this in mind we would require volunteers to help assist us with trips out of the school to expand the experiences of the young people in school. As well as this, we are continually under pressure to raise the attainment of our young people in school but with increasingly fewer human resource sin which to do this. Volunteers who would be able to come in and work with children either on a 1-1 or a small group basis would be invaluable.

Restrictions

Experience required: Absolutely none-time and patience are the main requirements needed. For trips out the school we do tend to walk everywhere so some level of fitness for this is required but that is all.
