Overall Purpose of the Role
We are looking to build upon the existing helpline that we have in place. We are looking to improve and expand the service. We are looking for committed and flexible volunteers who are willing to take on a range of tasks and help us shape the service to fulfil its new scope.
The helpline’s opening hours are Monday to Friday 10.00 – 16.00 comprising two 3-hour shifts.
Volunteers will receive full training and support including access to experienced helpline practitioners for debriefing purposes. Previous experience of fibromyalgia is useful but not essential for the role.
The main functions of the role are:
• To provide empathetic support, information and signposting to clients affected by the effects of fibromyalgia by telephone, and in written form by email or online forum.
• To provide administrative support for all helpline work
• Maintaining knowledge of other organisations and services that can help people affected by fibromyalgia and signpost when appropriate
• Keeping up to date with fibromyalgia news across the UK

We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, including an induction into all the areas outlined. You will have a chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

Organisation aims and objectives

The charity provides information and support to people suffering from fybromyalgia in the UK. It also raises awareness of the condition amongst medical professionals and promotes research. It provides a national helpline manned by volunteers.
