Friendship Club Volunteer

A Friendship Club volunteer will be part of a busy volunteering team who provide companionship to members of the Friendship Club. A volunteer would be involved in the set up of afternoon tea, provide company to members, help to serve the tea, coffee and cakes and work as part of the team to ensure all activities run smoothly. They would also attend a short volunteer meeting prior to the start of each session.

Organisation aims and objectives

A charity aimed to help improve the health and wellbeing of the local community, with volunteers being at the heart of what we do. Some of the work includes supporting people with dementia and their carers' and helping others become more connected in their community. We are a dynamic and evolving charity and are looking to expand on all the good work we do with the help of additional volunteers











Experience required: The volunteer would be expected to have some experience of working with other people in a group setting, good listening and communication skills and show empathy towards others. It would be desirable for a potential volunteer to have some experience of being involved in activities for older people.
Travel details: Opportunity is based at Mearns Kirk Halls, 404 Mearns Road, Newton Mearns, G77 5BU. There is parking available and is accessed by First Bus number 4, if traveling by public transport.

Expenses details: All out of pocket expenses are reimbursed on submission of receipts. Public transport tickets will also be reimbursed. Mileage is paid at current HMRC rates.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: All volunteers are offered a "taster" session of the particular role(s) they have chosen as part of the recruitment process.
Training details: The volunteer will be provided with a full induction to the charity, including receiving a volunteer handbook. They will be expected to attend induction training that covers topics including boundaries, confidentiality, safeguarding and communication. Other training is offered on a role specific basis and support is provided through the volunteer coordinator and project manager.
