We are looking for community engagement volunteers to work alongside our community engagement team Engage with local community groups/services to raise awareness of the range of Marie Curie support services (including our national services) Engage with and bring together people in communities (especially those who are poorly served by end of life care), to understand their experiences. Support Marie Curie in co -designing and developing new and existing services to support people at the end of life or in their bereavement. Feel confident in sharing their story and listening to others in an open and sensitive way. What we need you to do Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Provide input and advice and share your experiences Act as an ambassador and advocate for the charity supporting our work Engage with local organisations and represent the views and perspectives of people living with or caring for someone with a terminal illness, or who have been bereaved. Engage with local communities to listen to and learn from their experiences of end-of-life care and bereavement support and ensure that these experiences are shared with the local Marie Curie teams. Provide a good geographical spread across the relevant local area Available to meet regularly with the Community Engagement Team What skills or experience do you need? Feel confident and able to share your story to a diverse audience. For people leaving hospital, adjusting to life at home can be a difficult time. Supporting someone to get their essential shopping or delivering a food parcel, pick up their prescription, popping in to have a chat and a cuppa with them, helping them manage their mail or going with them to appointments, finding local support groups or getting their heating turned on are amongst the things that our volunteers can do to make all the difference for the Service User to feel safe at home. The role can be very varied because we are trying to support the service user with what they need at that time, and everyone is different.

Being a Community Facilitator is all about delivering a variety of lifesaving first aid skills in community engagement workshops and projects, within local communities, and primary and secondary schools. A lot of these projects involve talking about and demonstrating the basics of first aid to community groups that can include children, young people, and vulnerable adults. An example of events you could be delivering a first aid talk and demo to, are primary and secondary schools, small university groups, local community groups, charities, summer fairs, shopping centres. Some of the skills you could be teaching include how to provide CPR and apply a defib, different bandages and how to use them, and basic information on various health conditions. Not only that but all the training needed, is provided by us at no cost to you! A fantastic opportunity to help. All volunteers make a real difference and are greatly appreciated.

Marie Curie is dedicated to providing quality care and support to all our patients. As part of this, we are looking for Refreshment and Catering Volunteers to help serve meals and/or refreshments to patients on the wards.
