Description

Overtonlea Care Centre has a variety of volunteering opportunities both indoors and outdoors. Roles include:
Volunteering with the service users to have meaningful activities. / Volunteering for our gardening services / Volunteering for taking service users out to attend community events / Volunteering for our Overtonlea Community Garden
Also:
.• Volunteer administrators (they currently have a young person doing a modern apprenticeship on placement but they will be leaving soon)
• Volunteers to lead group activities at the Centre or 1 to 1 sessions with residents
• Volunteers to do handyman or maintenance tasks under the direction of the paid handyman
• Volunteer gardeners
• Volunteers to help out on an ad hoc basis e.g. helping to take residents to Cunningsburgh Show and other activities outside the centre
• Volunteers to help at the 3 ‘homely’ afternoons that they have at the Centre each year

Organisation aims and objectives

Overtonlea is a modern, purpose built residential home for adults with complex support needs in the South Mainland of Shetland. We offer residential support on a long term basis as well as respite support. We provide person centred support to individuals who reside at Overtonlea.

Working with service users - as negotiated. Gardening - any time. Working with service users - as negotiated. Gardening - any time.

Restrictions

Experience required: Patience, kindness, enthusiasm, happy disposition, understanding, the ability to maintain confidentiality, good communication skills, positive attitude to older people.
Travel details: Overtonlea Care Centre, Levenwick.
Minimum age: 12

Food Train is a registered charity, voluntary organisation and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently. Our aim is to support older people to live independently at home. Our preventative services address the difficulty older people face getting their weekly grocery shopping, doing jobs around the house and the growing isolation that comes with failing health. We also aim to provide a wide range of supported volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Would you like to volunteer to help older people in your local community? We are looking for folk to volunteer to carry out and deliver a grocery shop for an older person on a regular basis.
