This is a great opportunity to meet up and help older people to use and understand their laptops, tablets and smart phones. It will take place in the communal lounge of the retirement complex. Older people may not be making the most of the advantages modern technology has to offer. This would be a social group, with a small number of tenants looking to understand how to carry out basic functions, for example email; text; skype; playing games; and finding information.
It would suit someone who can communicate the way to use these devices in the simplest form.

Organisation aims and objectives

Caledonia Housing Association developed the volunteer project to support older people living in sheltered housing and the wider community, to live independently and enjoy life. The volunteer project is particularly focused on reducing social isolation and loneliness; and promoting health and wellbeing.

Experience required: This would suit someone who has an average knowledge of technology and the ability to pass on this information in a simple, jargon free way. Someone who has patience and enjoys supporting older people. It also would suit someone who is looking to develop their own skills, supporting a small group, passing on basic information and problem solving.
