Carer Support Group Volunteers

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can assist in leading carer support groups for those caring for people living with dementia. These groups meet in various locations across the Scottish Borders at an agreed time and venue.
The purpose of this role is to assist in the running of carer support groups. These groups can help carers of people living with dementia meet other people in similar situations, share stories and gain advice.
Key tasks include: setting up venues, welcoming people to the group, making tea and coffee and providing encouragement and support to new and existing group members.

Role Description:

  1. Assist in the facilitation of as carer support group as requested by group leader.
  2. To enable carers to meet with others in similar situations.
  3. To communicate with people with dementia, family members and staff within the community group setting.
  4. To attend training to be informed about dementia and to attend any other necessary training relevant to volunteering role.
  5. To carry out any other reasonable duties requested of the volunteer.

To provide support for people with dementia and their carers.


Experience required: Caring nature. Willing to enable and support a person living with dementia and their family. Good listening skills. Empathy and patience.
Travel details: Scottish Borders wide – Various locations to suit volunteer
Minimum age: 16
