Volunteering as an English tutor could be for you if you have good English and communications skills, You have an interest in language, You would like to teach in the future and need to gain some practical experience. You would be comfortable going into students' homes to teach them one-to-one. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). We are looking for people with good communication skills and an interest in language learning
To provide access to learning English for adults, including refugees, permanently resident in the area, who are unable to attend a local community-based class or who need additional support to continue with a class. This is achieved through trained volunteers working once a week on a one-to-one basis in a student's home or other suitable venue.

After the initial training volunteers give 1-2 hour weekly lessons over a period of nine months.
Experience required: Our volunteers do not require any skills or previous experience although a foreign language would be useful.
Travel details: The training takes place at the Granton Campus of Edinburgh College. The tuition is done in the students home, with travel expenses paid.

Expenses details: Travel expenses paid monthly on presentation of bus tickets or mileage rate 45p per mile after training.
Training details: Initial training and follow up training days, ESOL teaching experience and references after 6 months successful tutoring. Ongoing support from a qualified lecturer.
