Outdoor Learning with Primary Pupils

Description

Working alongside primary age pupils & teacher to deliver interesting learning opportunities outdoors in and around the local community & woods of Armadale.

Volunteers would work along with teacher to take groups of primary children out into the local woods and other areas of the community for outdoor learning opportunities. Activities would already be planned but with scope for change and other ideas welcomed. Volunteers would not be left alone with groups of children but would be working alongside the teacher and other adults. There would also be the opportunity for some gardening and cooking classes to be built in. Sessions would run Mon, Tue & Wed each week but volunteers could choose days and times that suited best as sessions would be with different ages & stages.

Restrictions

Volunteers will be required to undertake PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) registration.
Experience required: People with an interest/knowledge about the outdoors and nature. Experience working with children would be good but not essential. An interest and enthusiasm for learning outdoors and being willing to have a go at activities.
Travel details: Volunteers would need to make their own way to and from Southdale Primary School, Armadale. Activities would often involve walking over uneven & ground. In the event of an excursion to another site transport from the school to location and then back to school would be provided.
Minimum age: 16

Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Interested volunteers could come along to a taster session on Wednesday 19th September.
Training details: Interested volunteers would be invited to an informal meeting to discuss what would be involved including sample activities, suitable clothing etc. From there timetables with activity ideas would be distributed. At all times teacher would be present and training would be given on site during activities. There may also be opportunity for half day training in outdoor learning with children at a future date.
