Description

We need enthusiastic local people with a range of skills and experience to join our management board. As part of this team you will be responsible for the strategic management of the bureau.

Central Borders Citizens Advice Bureau (CBCAB) is a member of the Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, the nationwide network of independent advice agencies. We offer free, independent, confidential, impartial information and advice from our office in Galashiels.
Help is available to all members of the Central Borders community and we work with with over 1,500 clients per year.
The Bureau’s aims are:
To ensure that people do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively.

To exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policy and services both locally and nationally.

As a member of the Board you will be expected to:
Attend Board Meetings (approximately 6 each year, normally early weekday evenings at the Bureau offices in Galashiels) and occasional development sessions with the Bureau team (1-2 each year);

Take an active part in the discussions at the meetings;

Support our Bureau team of volunteers and staff;

Help set the Bureau’s strategy, policies, and project plans.

Organisation aims and objectives

Free confidential, impartial, independent, information, advice and help. Having a responsible influence on social policy.

Restrictions

Reside in Central Borders area and be aware of local issues.
Experience required: Committed to the aims and principles of the Bureau. Able to think creatively and exercise good, independent judgement. Able to work effectively as a member of a team. Able to understand and accept the responsibility of being a trustee and employer. We are particularly looking at the.moment for people with an interest in business planning – but if you have other skills and experience you can offer us, we’d love to hear from you too.
Travel details: CAB Office, 111 High Street, Galashiels.
