Description

Guide Dogs are looking for My Guide Sighted Guides to support a person with sight loss to safely navigate
the environment, building self-confidence and increasing social interaction; whilst maintaining dignity and
promoting independence. The role involves providing sighted guide assistance on a regular basis to
someone living with sight loss to help them achieve their goals and get out and about in their local area.

The length of partnerships vary from 6 weeks to 12+ months and your availability will be matched with suitable service users. Full training and ongoing support is provided from their My Guide team.

Organisation aims and objectives

To provide guide dogs and other rehabilitation services that meets the needs of the blind and partially sighted people. Guide dogs want a world in which all people who are blind and partially sighted enjoy the same rights, opportunities and responsibilities as everyone else.

Approx. 3 hours per week.

Restrictions

Volunteers must be 18yrs or over. PVG Check and references will be required.
Experience required: Good communication and interpersonal skills; non-judgemental attitude; and able to undertake the role safely and effectively. Any previous experience in befriending or supporting vulnerable people would be advantageous.
Travel details: Throughout the South Lanarkshire area

Training details: Induction, Sighted Guide Training (level 1 and 2), Safeguarding induction and awareness day, and any other relevant support for the role.
