Peer support volunteer (English and Polish speakers required)
The Peer Supporter will provide support, encouragement and inspiration to clients attending the Recovery Hub. The Peer Supporter will make informal contact with clients when they attend the service. The Peer Supporter will listen to clients and use their own experience of addiction and recovery to provide support as appropriate. They may take on other roles as their confidence and skills expand like co facilitate groups, shadow one to one engagements and needle exchange. We are looking for native English speakers and native Polish speakers who can understand and communicate in English.

Organisation aims and objectives

At Turning Point Scotland Edinburgh Services, we support people with substance misuse and housing issues. Our location at the North East Recovery Hub is a drug and alcohol treatment service with a large multi-skilled team. We provide support and treatment to service users, as well as advice on housing and benefits.

Restrictions

Experience required: The applicant must be in abstinence based recovery for around 1 year, robust in their own recovery, Open minded, Positive, Enthusiastic, Hopeful, Encouraging, Non-judgmental, Good listening skills, Understanding of boundaries and confidentiality, Calm under pressure , Able to self-reflect ,Aware of own limitations, Work in a team. For native polish speakers: our group work programme and peer volunteer group supervision is delivered in English.

Training details: Training given once PVG and risk assessment completed, and according to the organisation’s training calendar. Not nationally accredited training.
