Would you like to help save lives? Do you enjoy driving and own a 4-wheel drive vehicle with tow bar, a horse or livestock trailer or a medium/large van with good ventilation? If so, we’d like to hear from you. We are the British Hen Welfare Trust and since 2005 we have been saving and rehoming ex-caged laying hens throughout the United Kingdom. Working closely with leaders in the egg industry, we designed and developed the original rehoming model for ex-caged hens, and so far have found homes for over 960,000 hens to date. We’re looking for volunteer drivers to load and transport hens from commercial farms (assisted by other BHWT volunteers), and deliver them to our rehoming sites. Each rehoming site conducts approximately 10 events a year which are generally held on weekends.

At Cats Protection, we offer a free and confidential fostering service for cats whose families are fleeing domestic abuse so they can rest assured their cat will be taken care of until they can be safely reunited. Referrals are handled by a specialist and experienced team, who support owners referring to the service, arrange to collect cats, and organise foster placements through a wonderful network of dedicated Lifeline volunteers. By fostering with Lifeline, you’ll be helping us to support someone in need of a temporary home for their cat. We’ll cover all costs so all you need to do is provide a loving home for your foster cat and send us lots of photos so we can give their owner updates. Fostering with our service is completely confidential, so you won’t actually know anything about the owner and they also won’t know your identity either. All communication goes through our dedicated Lifeline team to maintain anonymity.

We need your help to coordinate our Pet Aid initiative, which is now serving over 50 foodbanks across Scotland. You may be helping to pick up donations from local collection points, sort and store donations and prepare Pet Aid crates in one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres/storage facilities, or deliver items to participating foodbanks in your area. At this difficult time of cost of living increases, you can help us succeed in providing food and other items to those most in need, making sure those struggling to pay the bills and making use of foodbanks across the country for their families, never have to be separated from their beloved pets for financial reasons. Note: You will need a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle to undertake this role. Fuel expenses will be reimbursed at the rate of 45p per mile, and in line with our Reimbursement of Volunteer Expenses Policy. You will also need a smart phone capable of running Telegram in order to communicate with our staff team.
