To help deliver our current waste projects, Zero Waste Leith and Waste Free Edinburgh.
Typical activities we might ask our volunteers to carry out, usually alongside a member of staff, include: Hosting a stall / attending a community event; Delivering or supporting the delivery of a talk or workshop to a community group; Interviewing people about waste and recycling habits on their doorstep or in public places; Office administration tasks; Developing resources, monitoring and recording the number of bins presented on recycling days.

Changeworks develop and deliver innovative projects and businesses that inspire and empower people to make a difference. Our activities: increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources, prevent waste from going to landfill, promote methods of transport with low environmental impact. We provide people with the information they need to make choices that lessen their impact on the environment, we help them to lead safer, healthier, more fulfilled lives.










We have a flexible approach to volunteering and aim to offer a variety of opportunities that can fit around your life, as such we ask for a minimum of two hours per month.


Experience required: Required: Good communication skills; Enthusiasm to help spread the word about the benefits of reducing waste; Good organisational skills; Friendly manner. Desireable: Experience of passing on information to others; Giving talks/ workshops to groups.
Travel details: At a local community centre or venue within the project areas; At specific streets across Edinburgh and At the Changeworks office at 36 Newhaven Road, Edinburgh, EH6 5PY. Some of the work can be done in your own home.

Expenses details: Travel expenses paid for public transport. If using own car 45p per mile, if using a bike 20p per mile.
Taster available: Yes
Training details: Training is provided in a series of sessions delivered at Changeworks, and refreshers are given at the start of each event. Training includes information about Changeworks, background information about waste and food waste in Scotland, waste prevention and recycling information, how to engage with the public, as well as the incentives and support offered by the project and health and safety information.
