Compassionate Neighbour (Befriender)

Description

The Compassionate Neighbours programme aims to tackle the loneliness and social isolation that many people who are nearing the end of their life experience. This might be due to age, illness or bereavement.

We have opportunities across the Falkirk area for volunteers to visit someone in their home, have a chat and a cup of tea, and make someone's day a little bit brighter. This small act by our Compassionate Neighbours can provide a lifeline to someone who is confined and is socially isolated. It is very simple, but hugely significant.

We have people across Falkirk in various communities (including Bonnybridge, Grangemouth and more!), so usually we are able to match volunteers locally to limit travelling. If you could spare the time and commit to a weekly or fortnightly visit, we'd love to hear from you!

Organisation aims and objectives

Strathcarron Hospice provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses. Our palliative care team helps hundreds of people each year in our Hospice, in the local community, in hospitals and in other care settings. We realise that it is difficult to talk about death. It's difficult four our patients, for their friends and family - that's why we're here. We provide care and choice for people with life limiting conditions, and we support those close to them.
