Compassionate Neighbour (befriender)

  • VO70619

Description

A caring person with the ability to listen who has a few hours to spare would be ideal for this volunteering opportunity.
Full training is provided including recognising boundaries, listening and communication skills, supporting people through loss, grief and bereavement, helping people to think ahead, hand massage and relaxation. Regular support sessions offer a chance to share stories with other volunteers. Individual support is also available. Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
This is an opportunity to help a person or family at a time of great difficulty. Current volunteers find it a very rewarding thing to do.

Organisation aims and objectives

Strathcarron Hospice provides care for people with life liniting illnesses. Our palliative care team helps hundreds of people each year in our Hospice, in the local community, in hospitals and in other care settings. We realise that it is difficult to talk about death. It's difficult four our patients, for their friends and family - that's why we're here. We provide care and choice for people with life limiting conditions, and we support those close to them.
