Caledonia Housing Association’s Volunteer Project supports older people living in sheltered / very sheltered housing schemes and the wider community. We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers who enjoy socialising in a one-to-one setting. Providing companionship for an older person who may be isolated or lonely. This could be visiting and having a cup of tea and a chat; or sharing interests, or going out together. Most of our Befrienders say how much they enjoy the role and how much they themselves get out of the relationship.

No experience is necessary, would suit someone who enjoys supporting older people and can give 2 hours of their time per week or fortnight.

We provide Befriender Induction Training for all candidates – All
befriender volunteer are required to undergo a PVG check prior to starting.

Organisation aims and objectives

Caledonia Housing Association provides sustainable homes and a range of services for its tenants. The majority of its tenants are older people, from retirement age up. The volunteer programme is designed to support services for older people or those disadvantaged through disability or ill-health, living in the Dundee area.










Meeting usually last between 1.5 and 2 hours – per week or fortnight Most older people prefer day time visits, but a few do have early evening visits


Suitable for someone who is comfortable volunteering 1 to 1 – able to volunteer independently in someone’s home.
Experience required: We are looking for friendly volunteers who are patient, reliable and would enjoy supporting older people who may be lonely or isolated.
