Action for Children Aberdeen Priority Families - be rewarded and have new experiences, volunteer with us as a Child/Young Person Mentor
Volunteer mentors guide, advise, listen to and support children/young people, sharing their experiences as well as trying new activities and spending quality time together.

Matched with a child/young person in Aberdeen City you will develop a 1:1 relationship providing regular positive input to their social, emotional and educational development on a weekly/fortnightly basis for a few hours at a time. The benefit of the mentoring service positively affects the individual child, their family life, their school academic life, the relationships with their friends and the life of the volunteer mentor.

Through volunteering you will make a positive difference to the life of a child/young person. Full training, regular support, reasonable out of pocket expenses are provide and you will be able to easily fit mentoring in around your other commitments.

Being a Child/Young Person Mentor at Action for Children - Aberdeen Priority Families further provides valuable experience of working with children and families, learning about how best to support children/ young people living in difficult situations, whilst being fully supported in their practice, the opportunity to develop personal skills such as communication, motivation and improved confidence, the chance to meet like-minded new people. A PVG Disclosure (provided by us) is necessary for this role.

•Action for Children supports and speaks out for the country’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people for as long as it takes to transform their lives. We do this not only in our day to day caring work, but also in campaigning for child welfare reform and we are a strong voice in Government for children and young people. •In Scotland we work directly with over 5,000 children, young people, parents and carers and run 75 services across the country. Grandmentors is an award-winning, inter-generational mentoring programme, operating in various locations across the UK. We are currently looking for new Volunteer Mentors to join our programme in Perth and Kinross which launched in 2023. Grandmentors facilitate conversations around keeping well, coping strategies, self-care, and self-management. Each young person alongside their Grandmentor co-produces a bespoke support plan and set goals based on their needs. They explore and review the young person’s challenges, and priorities. These range from enhancing mental & physical health and wellbeing, dealing with stress and conflict, support to access sustainable and appropriate housing, career, and education goals, budget planning and more.

Volunteer Mentors

We are a not for profit community interest organisation supporting young people and children's mental health and wellbeing. We are currently seeking volunteers to provide support during the week at our mum and child sessions. These sessions are provided to help families connect and support one another. Your main role would be set up room, hosting and speaking to parents and tidying the room. If you have small children they can also be there whilst you volunteer. Empower up volunteer

Why we want you Empower up is a programme of support is aimed at autistic young people between the ages of 12 and 19 who are living in Glasgow (and surrounding areas). Participants will benefit from structured support to build and develop social navigation strategies and confidence. Social groups will also be created to encourage the development of peer friendships. Empower Up will take place over the course of 40 weeks, where participants will access 20 Social Navigation sessions and 20 Social Group sessions. There is also a Scotland Wide online group for young people between the ages of 12 and 15. What you will be doing Attending l group sessions Volunteering with individuals to build their self-coping strategies and promote their self-management. Talking with individuals, helping them to understand how their autism impacts them. Building up positive relationships with people autistic people and other volunteers in group settings. Spending time with / share activities with the group members Help improve self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth of people at the group Help individuals to self-manage their own needs on a 1-2-1 basis in a public setting. Welcoming new members Accompanying group members in local outings Keeping in touch with the group leader and notifying if you are unable to attend

Friday Night Youth Club Volunteers

The Friday Youth club is a vital social club for all children in Garthdee. Bring your best attitude and come help us make Friday Youth Club something the kids won't forget! Your responsibilities will be: 1) To assist in the running of the youth programme. 2) To supervise young people and ensure general health & safety and rules of conduct. 3) To assist with necessary programme set-up and clean-up. 4) To facilitate and participate in games, activities and discussions with young people This is also a great opportunity to develop you customer services, communication and care skills.
