Description

My Support Day is a charity based in South Lanarkshire that supports families affected by substance use. The Homework Club is a new project with the purpose of supporting such children and young children achieve more and grow in confidence with one-on-one and small group learning support. The Homework Club session will be followed by a whole family activity.
The volunteer role is to support the children and young people with their learning, help to set up and put away before and after the club, and utilise your own skills and interests to help plan and run the activities. The atmosphere is very relaxed and informal, but reliability and enthusiasm are key to this role.
The club will run every Thursday from 4-6:30pm in the Beacons in Blantyre so we are looking for people who can commit to 1.5-2.5 hours every week or fortnight.
There will be lots of opportunities to work with partner organisations and access relevant training. This would be especially suited to someone with an interest in teaching, youth work, community/social work or a career in the third sector. A full induction will be provided when you start your role, and ongoing support including one-on-one meetings will be available to you.

Food & Fun Volunteers

Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. Scouts (Beaver, Cub or Scout) Leader - Flexible volunteer

Week by week, our volunteers inspire and provide #SkillsForLife for young people aged 4-25. We support Scouting in the Borders, Braid, Craigalmond, East Lothian, Edinburgh North East, Midlothian and Pentland areas Our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers, and skill sharers. We’re talking about minibus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven-year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same.
