Advocacy Service Aberdeen is a registered charity providing independent advocacy support to a wide range of people living in Aberdeen City. Independent advocacy is about helping people and groups have a stronger voice, addressing imbalances of power and ensuring people’s rights are recognised, respected and secured. We have advocacy services for: • People with a mental disorder, including a learning disability • Victims of domestic abuse • Carers • Older adults • Self-directed support • Children and Young people • Substance use We are looking for people to join our Board of trustees who are passionate about the rights and inclusion of people in decisions which matter to them. The Board is responsible for setting the strategy and policies of the charity and overseeing the running of the organisation. The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the charity’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. While all Trustees always retain their responsibility for the Charity as a whole, some will be chosen for their specific expertise in particular areas and will support and advise the Board on that area of expertise. -Main Responsibilities: • Work together to provide leadership and strategic direction to the charity • Ensure that M4U meets its charitable objectives as laid out in the constitution • Ensure that M4U is effectively run and meets all of its legal and regulatory requirements • Ensure that assets are safeguarded and used efficiently for those for whom the charity exists • Ensure that the charity is accountable financially and in other ways • Take on specific roles as required for the smooth operation of the Board of Trustees and charity • To maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity. • Act in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times • Promote and develop the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society -Commitment: Trustees are expected to contribute around 10 hours per month to the charity and to attend 6 Board Meetings per annum. A minimum commitment of 12 months is requested. Trustees are expected to attend a minimum of 2 Workshops, 2 Performances and 2 Fundraising Events per annum. -Remuneration: This is a voluntary position, although reasonable travelling expenses can be refunded. -Accountable to: As the board are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity, they are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders, including: service users, funders and OSCR. M4U depends on Trustees having a wide range of skills, and each Board member should have strengths in at least one of the following areas. Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO is a regional dance charity based in Aberdeen, in the North East of Scotland. Our charitable purpose is to lead positive impacts through dance. The organisation was established as an independent Scottish charity in 2015. We’re committed to making continued improvements to how we work, across all parts of the organisation. We strive to remove barriers so that people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can experience the benefits of a life enriched by dance. The next period will see us deepening our commitment to artists, audiences, and participants across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, and thinking about how we best serve our communities. *About the role Citymoves’ trustees are responsible for the governance and strategy of the charity. We welcome applications at any time, from individuals with a variety of skills. Experience in any one or more of the below areas would be particularly welcome: • Finance and fundraising • Knowledge of the local Aberdeen ecology • Running an arts or community organisation We welcome both new and experienced trustees from across the UK. We are interested in people who are enthusiastic about learning, and who would like to contribute to the development of dance in the North East of Scotland. *Time commitment Trustees are expected to attend the quarterly Board Meetings and one strategic away-day per year. We also have a Finance Committee who meet quarterly, and an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group. Other working groups are formed subject to need. Meetings are held on Zoom. This is a voluntary, 3-year appointment, with reasonable travel expenses covered. We also have a learning budget and are committed to supporting the development of our Trustees. Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all Board Members. Trustee training for board members is through an online onboarding process. Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important.
